Since October, I have found a new passion, direction and metaphor.

My blog

Why Tech for Safety?

When we combine these two words- Tech & safety, we often see first as a threat to the second one.

In every case, we have seen that Technology has given hazards and injuries. Injuries that are cognitive, emotional, financial and physical.

Whether you talk about cyber or online.

We have identity threat, fraud, phishing, or hackers who steal passwords and information.

Talking about Industries.

Our eyes see a long history of Industrial accidents, failed industrial experiments that take life, poisonous gasses….

According to National Census of fatal occupational injuries in 2014

A preliminary total of 4,679 fatal work injuries were recorded in the United States in 2014, an increase of 2 percent over the revised count of 4,585 fatal work injuries in 2013.

Why am I talking about Industrial Injuries?

Because what we have a definition of Tech for Safety is very narrow. More precise and broader definition will be one that should accommodate for cyber and online victims, for domestic and sexual violence and abuse, Industrial workers injuries etc.

Safe with tech is here to change how people see technology. Monstrous, evil, the cause of problems.

We are inspired by awesome people around the world and the thousands of innovations that are changing our life.

Consider these all too-common-threats to online users

1. Phishing: Scammers disguise as a trustworthy source in an attempt to obtain private information such as passwords, and credit card information, etc.

2. Internet Scams: Schemes aim to cheat victim for personal property.

3. Spyware: Software designed to collect and transmit private information, such as passwords without user`s consent or knowledge.

4. Online Predation: Act of engaging an underage minor into inappropriate sexual relationships through the internet.

5. Cyberstalking: The use of the Internet or other electronic means to stalk or harass an individual, a group of individuals, or an organization.

6. Cyberbullying: Bullying by using the internet as medium

These words have been discussed in media very often. Technologies have given even more tools to predators.

“No single technology can solve the problem we got from the technology itself.”

Tom`s story

ICVA awards 2008 Tom`s story won Best Education Film.

This Film starts

A boy named Tom met a boy named Jack online. Jack asked Tom,” If he will like to go football training with him.”

Tom agrees. When he arrives at Jack home. He was greeted by a person who claims to be Jack`s elder brother. This person lets him come in till Jack arrives. Later Jack`s brother offers Tom a beer, and “one turned two” until Tom is too drunk. He then approached by Jack`s brother, who Tom then works out is the person he met online, who holds him down and starts to remove his clothes.

The film then is forwarded where Tom is leaving, crying and shuts himself in his bedroom.

Then he remembers ThinkUKnow where he complaint “Jack”. Then imagined what would have happened if he had followed website guidelines of bringing a parent to meet Jack.

The Film ends with Tom playing football while “Jack” is being arrested.

A keynote

I see viewers can interpret this video in two ways.

Viewer1. Blame Technology. Internet has made our children more exposed to such kind of inhuman creatures. Tom is victimized by internet. Modern technology has given, even more, sophisticated tools to abusers.

Viewer 2. You can see technology the way it is more appealing and positive. True that we are more vulnerable today, but the same technology (in this case internet) give us a weapon to fight back.

What I have learned:

Technology is bliss if you know how to take control.  Innovation and technology can`t be stopped, but we can turn it to the ultimate source of knowledge.

Almost everything comes with a guideline manual. Either follows the manual or be ready to face wrath of ignorance,

In the era when we are looking for Artificial Intelligence, the virtual world has become reality, one cannot afford going back. It is worthless to talk about hazards technology has given us. We should learn how to tame it for good. – Our logic

We at “Safe with Tech” believe in Technology. We have made #techsafety single driving value of our blog.

We want to empower the victims through technology. It is inspiring that how technology has come as the greatest survivor for them.
